How to wake up, handle it and get stuff done

Happy New Year

Hope you have all had a very happy holiday.  Mine involved taking my little family to go and stay with my bigger family which consisted of my mum, dad, sisters and their families. It was crazy but I wouldn’t have it any other way. While I was there, I got to thinking about how we were just a family of 5 and how my sisters and I all have our own families now. When did that happen?! It also got me thinking about babies and how I prepared for having my two children. The first one, well ignorance was bliss and I told myself I could handle it and I did handle it…because I had to but if you ask anyone who was in that room with me, I made sure that everyone heard HOW I was handling it! SO when I found out I was pregnant 5 years later with my daughter, I wanted to do it better.  I read up about you had to get into the right mindset and how music could help.

Do you just listen to music or does music have a purpose in your life?

I don’t know about you but music really helps me to get into certain mindsets. It has the power to make me feel sad, happy or invincible. Obviously, having gone through labour once, I wanted the invincibility mindset! I created a playlist that I planned to listen to, to help push through (pun so very much intended) the pain. As it happens, there were a few complications with Sophie, my daughter and she was forced to come nearly 5 weeks early and via C section so I never got to use the playlist for its original purpose BUT I do still listen to it when I want that rush of adrenaline to make me get up and get stuff done.

So how does this fit into overcoming fear?

Fear is something which can rule our lives. It might affect a small part of our lives or it might affect the whole thing BUT we shouldn’t let it stop us from living the life we want to live. You can use it, face it and say ‘yeah? bring it on!’ One way of doing this is through a morning routine of listening to some blood pumping, adrenaline rushing music. It doesn’t add any extra time to your morning but it has the potential to completely change the way you start your day. Remember, you are in control of your perceptions and if you wake up feeling a bit crappy and you can’t see a way of changing that feeling then the likelihood is that you will continue like that the rest of the day BUT if you wake up feeling crappy and say ‘no, I am in control of my day’ and take some action to change your perceptions, then you can really do great things.

My challenge for you

I challenge you to create your own playlist that will get you out of bed thinking ‘I am going to completely OWN this day’! To help you, I include my original playlist which was helpfully called ‘labour’! I have added a few more since I was pregnant with my daughter as it is still my ‘to go to’ playlist. Music is subjective so please excuse any which aren’t your cup of tea as there is quite a wide range of different genres. Sometimes I like the lyrics and sometimes, it is just about the tune but I hope some of them will resonate with you and help to inspire you to create your own playlist:

  1. I Gotta Feeling – The Black Eyed Peas
  2. Uptown Funk – Mark Ronson (feat Bruno Mars)
  3. Survivor – Destiny’s Child
  4. Don’t Stop Me Now – Queen
  5. All About That Bass – Meghan Trainor
  6. Sexy and I know it – LMFAO
  7. Dance with Me Tonight – Olly Murs
  8. Second, Minute or Hour – Jack Peñate
  9. Hooked on a Feeling – Blue Swede
  10. Blame it on the Boogie – The Jacksons
  11. Cherry Bomb – The Runaways
  12. It’s a Beautiful Day – Michael Bublé
  13. U Can’t Touch This – MC Hammer
  14. New Shoes – Paolo Nutini
  15. I Want You Back – Jackson 5
  16. Shout Out to My Ex – Little Mix
  17. Shape of You – Ed Sheeran
  18. The Rock Show – Blink-182
  19. Johnny B Goode – Chuck Berry
  20. Chelsea Dagger – The Fratellis
  21. Basket Case – Green Day

Happy play-listing and let me know your favourite ‘go to’ tunes below,

Much love

I LOVE LOVE LOVE playlists. I have a playlist for every situation. I admit I am a slow morning person, once I drop the kids off at school i come home to a slow cup of coffee and some low tempo music. the uptempo one is for when I run around the house cleaning putting it back in order, or for when i work out. I work from home with music pretty much 24/7.
For your list I would add “What makes you beautiful” – not the original version, but the – Boyce Avenue cover:)

That’s great that you have one for every situation. I love that idea! Yes absolutely to a slow coffee after taking the kids to school. I only have Tuesdays off at the moment but that is exactly what I do when I get back home after the school run. I love your addition and that you use music in such a powerful way. Thank you

I always love to hear what you think, please leave a comment
